Wiccan songs and chants

We love to sing and dance and chant together, and here are some of my favourites.

Lord of the Dance

Gods and Goddesses

Elements Chant

Gwydion

"Green Grow the Rushes"

Holy Powers chant

Lord of the Dance

When she danced on the waters and the wind was her horn

The lady laughed and everything was born

And when she lit up the sun and the light gave him birth

The Lord of the dance then appeared on earth.

Chorus:

Dance, dance, wherever you may be,

For I am the lord of the dance said he

And I ll live in you if you live in me,

For I am the lord of the dance said he.

I danced in the morning when the world was begun

I dance in the moon, in the stars and the sun

I follow the darkness by the soil of the earth

I join in the singing that gave me birth

Chorus

I dance in the circle when the flames leapt up high

I dance in the fire and  I never, never die

I dance in the waves on the bright summer sea

I am the lord of the wave mystery

Chorus

I sleep in the kernel and I dance in the rain

I dance in the wind and through the waving grain

And when you cut me down, I care not this pain

In the spring I m lord of the dance again

Chorus

They cut me down but I leapt up high

I am the light that will never, never die

I live in you if you live I me

I am the lord of the dance said he

Chorus

I danced on the sabbat, you dance out the spell

I dance and sing that everyone be well

And when the dance is over do not think I m gone

To live is to dance, so I dance on and on

Chorus.

Elements Chant

*Air moves us, Fire transforms us,

Water shapes us, Earth heals us

And the balance of the wheel goes round and round,

And the balance of the wheel goes round.

*This one is also from Gwydion and my high priest told me to act on it a certain way. So I did on a Mabon evening by the fire. We had lots of fun with it and all joined in!

Take a long piece of ribbon and tie it to a stick, like a fishing rod. Then walk around the fire and tease everybody with the ribbon, and sing this song repeating it faster and faster. If someone catches the ribbon s-he ties a knot in the end, with a wish. If the ribbon is all knotted up you throw it in the fire. So mote it be!

*Oh, she will bring the buds in the spring,

And laugh among the flowers.

In summer heat her kisses are sweet,

She sings and lead the bowers.

She cuts the grain and gathers the rain,

When fruits all fall around her.

Her bones grow old in wintery cold,

She wraps her cloak around her.

" Green Grow the Rushes"

Only recently I've heard this hilarious song sang at a Beltane gathering! If the singer does all the actions with it you'll be in for a treat!

I have come across this version, but apparently there are other versions as well. The tune is on “Green Grow the Rushes, Oh!”

I ll sing you one, oh!                 (singer)

Green Grow the Rushes Oh!      (all)

And what is your one Oh?           (all)

One is one and all alone and ever more shall be so.     (singer)

I ll sing you two Oh!

Green Grow the Rushes Oh!

And what is your two Oh?

Two, two, the two-faced god in gold and red and green-oh.

One is one and all alone, and ever more shall be so.

I ll sing you three Oh!

Green Grow the Rushes Oh!

And what is your three Oh?

Three, three the Triple Goddess,

Two, two the two-faced God  in gold and red and green, oh.

…on and on…

I ll sing you thirteen oh

Green Grow the Rushes, Oh!

And what is your thirteen,  Oh?

Thirteen  rounds of the silvery wheel.

Twelve for the heavenly augurs.

One and one for the Year Kings reign,

Ten for the Celtic Reading,

Nine for the nine foot Circle.

Eight for the eight great Sabbats,

Seven for the Gates between the Worlds,

Six for the Book of Changes,

Five for the fiery points of light,

Four for the Guardian Towers,

Three,  the triple Goddess.

Two, two, the two faced God in gold and red and green oh,

One is one and all alone, and ever more shall be so.

Holy Powers chant

*Holy Powers, Powers all, answer on to this my call,

Power of Earth, and  Power of Air, answer on to this my prayer,

Power of Water, Power of Fire, work ye on to my desire,
