Esbats or Moons, what do you do in a Circle? We all have our own moon dreams, deeply involved and wonder about the silvery moon in our starlight sky. Temples have been dedicated to her. We feel touched in our bones by her ever-changing cycles. Each month we go through this transformation. We feel the pull in our waters and life on earth, and as women we can understand that all too well. Moon worship, is more ancient than any other form of story. The symbol of transformation reflects the mystery of life. Waxing and waning growing to Full, truly a circle. Anyway…what does happen and what is going on inside a witches circle? Esbats are held near or on the Full Moon; some groups come together at New Moon as well. Working inside or outside we usually prepare with a bath, to relax and meditate on the coming event. Anointing afterwards with special oil. You can make yourself as beautiful as you want perfume, wearing silver jewellery and if you wish body painting. In some Covens everything else stays off, sky clad, while others prefer robes.
On the height of power there will be Magic, spells, chants and divination or teachings, new tools blessed. If there is somebody who wants to be Initiated it is done now. Scrumptious feasting and at the end the Lords of the Watchtowers and the Circle will be thanked for. We all go home contented. “May the Circle be open, yet unbroken, May the love of God and Goddess be, forever in your heart! Merry Meet, Merry Part, Merry Meet again!” |
